A coach can watch a presentation, understand every slide and still return to the same behaviour on court.
My ongoing MRes work is deepening my focus on coach epistemology and how coaches learn socially. I am particularly interested in how communities of practice, critical reflection and mentorship help coaches examine their beliefs, interpret new knowledge and connect it to their own environments.
The Academy is therefore designed to move coaches beyond passive content consumption. Members repeatedly learn, discuss, reflect, test ideas in practice and return to the community with new questions.

Research informing this design includes work showing how performance tennis coaches’ beliefs, experience and informal reflective learning shape practice design (Anderson et al., 2021) and research examining the learning value created through a facilitated coaching community of practice (Bertram, Culver and Gilbert, 2017). These studies do not prove that any single membership model works; they help explain why the Academy combines content with facilitated dialogue, reflection and application.
